Michał: Nimara began as a response to challenges we encountered during various headless commerce projects. Our clients are e-commerce leaders and require more tailored solutions.&nbsp;We initially created a basic storefront template to speed development and reduce repetitive coding tasks. However, we quickly realized that a simple template wasn't enough to address our clients' broader challenges.&nbsp;To improve performance, they needed a flexible architecture for rapid modifications, enhanced user experience (UX), and reduced page load times.We needed a solution beyond just a frontend template - it had to be a complete system, including a design framework and the ability to integrate with various platforms. That's when Nimara started to take shape.

<h2>What were the biggest challenges you faced in building Nimara?</h2>

Michał: One of the most significant hurdles was choosing the right technology stack. We opted to use Next.js 14 with server-side components, which was a relatively new approach at the time.&nbsp;There wasn't much documentation or community support available, which made the development process more challenging. However, we were committed to using the latest technologies to ensure that Nimara would be a truly future-proof solution.This decision paid off. Unlike many existing storefronts built on older technologies or even older versions of Next.js, Nimara benefits from the latest advancements, ensuring it doesn't accumulate technical debt.&nbsp;This means our users can enjoy a more streamlined development experience and high performance as the platform evolves.

Let’s face it, the UI and UX may sometimes still be a bit clunky in Open Source, but we can no longer deny the fact that the entire market is moving toward an open model. 97% of companies now run at least some Open Source software.

More and more of the planet’s biggest companies are adopting OSS. In fact, the world sat up and took notice recently when Elon Musk announced that he is thinking of open-sourcing Tesla’s software.Other giants are already operating in the space; Google and Baidu spent from $20 billion to $30 billion on AI last year, almost all of which is being done in Open Source.If you are a developer, a customer, or a startup software house considering Open Source as an option, you may be familiar with a few of the drawbacks and wonder if it is really for you. We didn’t properly introduce Ariadne on our blog when we launched it in November, so let’s fix that now.

Ariadne is a library we’ve created that enables Python developers to implement GraphQL servers using SDL for defining schema and keeping the amount of boilerplate minimal. It’s the new kid on the block, but it’s the only Python library that offers this approach to developing GraphQL APIs. If you’ve been envious of what Apollo Server can do, we are happy to let you know it’s the main source of inspiration for what we are doing.Version 0.2.0 of Aridane is now available for installation from pypi.org, bringing plenty of goodies and improvements with it! <h2>Feature Parity with GraphQL.js Version 14.0.2</h2>

Ariadne now has feature parity with GraphQL.js 14.0.2 — the latest release of GraphQL reference implementation.
 This was achieved by updating the library’s codebase to use <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://github.com/graphql-python/graphql-core-next">GraphQL-core-next</a> instead of GraphQL-core as its GraphQL implementation.
This GraphQL implementation was build using modern Python features and relies on asyncio for asynchronous query execution, meaning you can now use “async” with your resolvers.
Due to this change we’ve also dropped support for Python 3.5 in Ariadne 0.2.0, now requiring Python 3.6 or 3.7.

<div>We are strong believers that library design should be simple to learn, but strict enough to not leave much room for developer error. In Ariadne 0.1.0 we relied on dicts for mapping resolvers to schema — an idea we’ve took directly from the Apollo-Server:</div>

This looked like a good idea at first: the pattern is proven and widely adopted in software; it uses basic Python
 types and is easy to memorize.
However, as soon as we moved to larger APIs, we found an issue in this approach; because Python doesn’t allow
 functions to be declared inside dicts, developers quickly end up with a file containing a number of function
 definitions followed by one big dict mapping those resolvers to their schema. Because that dict was usually out of
 their focus, a pattern started to emerge in which a developer would declare resolvers but forget to update the dict,
 thus not adding those resolvers to schema and surprising/confusing the dev.

<h2>Dedicated Objects for Mapping Resolvers to GraphQL Types</h2>

Ariadne 0.2.0 does away with this by introducing dedicated objects for mapping resolvers to GraphQL types:

In this new approach the resolver can be mapped to a declared sample field. This creates a more natural order of
 things: type -&gt; field -&gt; resolver.
As a bonus, ResolverMap also implements simple validation logic and will raise an error if a type or field doesn’t
 exist in the schema.

Ariadne 0.2.0 - Apollo Tools for Developers

It’s now not only an awesome GraphQL tooling and a first-class development experience for Python developers, it’s also a single set of tools that can now be shared by backend and frontend developers while working on the same project.We consider this a game-changer for software projects where a Python backend is developed together with a GraphQL frontend.

The latest Ariadne release already has all the features required by real-world GraphQL API implementations but we
 are not stopping there.
It is our goal to make the Python GraphQL experience as great as Node.js GraphQL. To achieve this end, we will
 continue improving Ariadne to offer a better developer experience and solve the ever-greater problem of space:

Ariadne 0.2.0 Released!

It’s in the bank. We hosted the first official GraphQL Meetup in Wrocław. We’ve been into the technology for a while, so we decided to share some knowledge and see if there was an appetite among our local friends.

GraphQL is transforming the way developers interact with APIs, offering a more efficient and flexible approach to data fetching compared to traditional REST. For those new to this technology, <a href="https://mirumee.com/blog/what-is-graphql?utm_campaign=article&amp;utm_medium=internal_link&amp;utm_source=art_graphql_meetup_great_begginning" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">understanding GraphQL</a> can be crucial in leveraging its full potential.

Recently, the first GraphQL Meetup in Wrocław highlighted the growing interest and applications of GraphQL in the tech community. We booked a 120-seat conference center and set up an event, half in hope, half in expectation. It blew our minds that over 700 people signed up. Next time we’re gonna need a bigger boat!The mix of people told us a lot about the technology. Nearly two-thirds of attendees have just started working with GraphQL and wanted to improve their projects, a fifth have heard of the tech and wanted to know what the fuss was all about, and the remaining 14% were those curious types who were hearing about GraphQL for the very first time.

<h2>Inspiring Tech Talks and Live Coding at GraphQL Meetup</h2>

Marcin Gębala, Lead Dev on our Saleor project, kicked off the talks with
 his own take on how the technology is perceived right now: “GraphQL is still
 a relatively new technology for some people but I wanted to convince them
 that it is already mature in 2019. People shouldn’t be afraid to use it in
 their projects.” He showed some of the coolest tools that the ecosystem
 provides and what makes it exciting.

GraphQL Meetup: Why You Should Migrate to GraphQL

 GraphQL transport protocol to show how GraphQL clients talk to servers using

 It was also an evening of firsts. Rafal Pitoń, Lead Developer of our own
 Ariadne library for GraphQL implementations in Python, gave his inaugural
 public speech and also introduced Ariadne in a tech talk for the first time.
 GraphQL is a new technology but we are already building things to augment our
 experience with it. Rafał showed that we are past early experimentation; we
 are looking at enhancements.

<h2>A Foundation for Building a Thriving Tech Community with GraphQL</h2>

While chatting to attendees after the event, we learnt about some of the
 niches in which people are using GraphQL. We found out that developers are
 experiencing a great number of positive benefits but there are a few common
 problems that are starting to appear as people repeatedly work with the
 technology. Coming together as a community helps highlight which issues are
 common and how we can overcome them, as well helping us spread knowledge and
 best practices.

We want to build more with GraphQL. And we want to build a community around the technology here in Wrocław, because we have some of the best developers in the world in our city.
