<h2>What were the biggest challenges you faced in building Nimara?</h2>

<p>Michał: One of the most significant hurdles was choosing the right technology stack. We opted to use Next.js 14 with server-side components, which was a relatively new approach at the time.&nbsp;</p><p>There wasn't much documentation or community support available, which made the development process more challenging. We use a unified stack, so developers don't have to juggle different languages for the backend and frontend layers. Together with the client, we create a detailed project roadmap, map user stories, and hold collaborative workshops to align every aspect of the project. Then, using our design system, we determine what should be customized to create a tailored platform.&nbsp;</p><p>We stay in close touch with the client throughout the project, providing regular updates and keeping everyone on the same page. Let’s face it, the UI and UX may sometimes still be a bit clunky in Open Source, but we can no longer deny the fact that the entire market is moving toward an open model. 97% of companies now run at least some Open Source software.

<p>More and more of the planet’s biggest companies are adopting OSS. In fact, the world sat up and took notice recently when Elon Musk announced that he is thinking of open-sourcing Tesla’s software.</p><p>Other giants are already operating in the space; Google and Baidu spent from $20 billion to $30 billion on AI last year, almost all of which is being done in Open Source.</p><p>If you are a developer, a customer, or a startup software house considering Open Source as an option, you may be familiar with a few of the drawbacks and wonder if it is really for you. At Mirumee, we know the answer. We offer <a href="https://mirumee.com/services/?utm_campaign=article&amp;utm_medium=internal_link&amp;utm_source=art_why_open_src_good_for_business" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">separate bespoke solutions</a> to clients in different industries that are a large part of our revenue stream. Our Open Source efforts are, therefore, something more ideological. We love working in Python and Django, and we use those projects to improve our skills and to showcase ourselves to clients.</p>

You don’t even have to have your own project to start an Open Source business. If you can contribute to an existing solution like Saleor, and find an additional feature or service which you can develop and market to clients, then you offer something of value to both customers and the OSS community.

<p>And it’s not just in the coding; one thing that we challenge people to do with Saleor is to constantly work on the UI and UX aspects of the solution, so that it goes from glitchy to glitzy.</p>

<h2>Establish a Strong Identity Through Open Source</h2>

<p>A clear identity creates a clear path for your people and projects.</p><p>Having all of your people understand the identity of your company is also essential to offering value to customers. A good business is one that has an overarching ethos that everyone can buy into. For us, having a clear way of working gives employees that sense of identity; one that is based on the Open Source principles of trust, maturity and a positive attitude towards constant learning. More importantly, a strong identity means that the company and its people are aware of our own strengths and our place in the market. We are not a Jack of all trades, but we are a master of at least one. We have grown to become the <a href="http://git-awards.com/users/search?login=mirumee" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#1 Python contributors</a> to Open Source in Poland by focusing on who we are and what we do best.</p><p>Open Source is also a great starting point for the culture of a business. The community, by its very nature, is one where people know how to give and receive feedback and want to empower others to win. Whether people come to us with that attitude already in their DNA, and thus it is what attracts them to an Open Source environment, or whether exposure to Open Source brings that out in people, is a chicken-egg debate. Which came first is not really important; the final result is that Open Source companies usually have a spirit of community at heart.</p>

<h2>The Future is Bright with Open Source</h2>

<p>The sustainability and continued value of any Open Source project relies upon some financial support to non-profit organizations like the Django Software Foundation, who promote and support the framework. We believe that any company which makes money using Open Source as a basis for business should consider contributing to keep it in good shape, thus protecting their own future.</p><p>For us at Mirumee, sustainability is not just about giving financial support, it is about helping to build a thriving community for the future. Why is Open Source Good for Business and People?

We didn’t properly introduce Ariadne on our blog when we launched it in November, so let’s fix that now.

<p>Ariadne is a library we’ve created that enables Python developers to implement GraphQL servers using SDL for defining schema and keeping the amount of boilerplate minimal. It’s the new kid on the block, but it’s the only Python library that offers this approach to developing GraphQL APIs. If you’ve been envious of what Apollo Server can do, we are happy to let you know it’s the main source of inspiration for what we are doing.</p><p><strong>Version 0.2.0 of Aridane is now available</strong> for installation from pypi.org, bringing plenty of goodies and improvements with it! <h2>Feature Parity with GraphQL.js Version 14.0.2</h2>

<p>Ariadne now has feature parity with GraphQL.js 14.0.2 — the latest release of GraphQL reference implementation.
  This was achieved by updating the library’s codebase to use <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://github.com/graphql-python/graphql-core-next">GraphQL-core-next</a> instead of GraphQL-core as its GraphQL implementation.</p>
<p>This GraphQL implementation was build using modern Python features and relies on asyncio for asynchronous query execution, meaning you can now use “async” with your resolvers.</p>
<p>Due to this change we’ve also dropped support for Python 3.5 in Ariadne 0.2.0, now requiring Python 3.6 or 3.7.</p>

<div>We are strong believers that library design should be simple to learn, but strict enough to not leave much room for developer error. In Ariadne 0.1.0 we relied on dicts for mapping resolvers to schema — an idea we’ve took directly from the Apollo-Server:</div>

<p>This looked like a good idea at first: the pattern is proven and widely adopted in software; it uses basic Python
  types and is easy to memorize.</p>
<p>However, as soon as we moved to larger APIs, we found an issue in this approach; because Python doesn’t allow
  functions to be declared inside dicts, developers quickly end up with a file containing a number of function
  definitions followed by one big dict mapping those resolvers to their schema. Because that dict was usually out of
  their focus, a pattern started to emerge in which a developer would declare resolvers but forget to update the dict,
  thus not adding those resolvers to schema and surprising/confusing the dev.</p>

<h2>Dedicated Objects for Mapping Resolvers to GraphQL Types</h2>

<p>Ariadne 0.2.0 does away with this by introducing dedicated objects for mapping resolvers to GraphQL types:</p>

<p>In this new approach the resolver can be mapped to a declared sample field. This creates a more natural order of
  things: type -&gt; field -&gt; resolver.</p>
<p>As a bonus, ResolverMap also implements simple validation logic and will raise an error if a type or field doesn’t
  exist in the schema.</p>

Ariadne 0.2.0 - Apollo Tools for Developers

<p>It’s now not only an awesome GraphQL tooling and a first-class development experience for Python developers, it’s also a single set of tools that can now be shared by backend and frontend developers while working on the same project.</p><p>We consider this a game-changer for software projects where a Python backend is developed together with a GraphQL frontend.</p>

<p>The latest Ariadne release already has all the features required by real-world GraphQL API implementations but we
  are not stopping there.</p>
<p>It is our goal to make the Python GraphQL experience as great as Node.js GraphQL. To achieve this end, we will
  continue improving Ariadne to offer a better developer experience and solve the ever-greater problem of space:</p>

  <li>Iterate on our documentation to show you how to use Ariadne and how to develop GraphQL servers using good
    practices and patterns</li>
  <li>Deliver better abstractions for integration with existing server and framework libraries</li>
  <li>Implement solutions for patterns and problems not specific to the GraphQL core, like query cost validators or
    connection types</li>

Ariadne 0.2.0 Released!

It’s in the bank. We hosted the first official GraphQL Meetup in Wrocław. We’ve been into the technology for a while, so we decided to share some knowledge and see if there was an appetite among our local friends.

<p>GraphQL is transforming the way developers interact with APIs, offering a more efficient and flexible approach to data fetching compared to traditional REST. For those new to this technology, <a href="https://mirumee.com/blog/what-is-graphql?utm_campaign=article&amp;utm_medium=internal_link&amp;utm_source=art_graphql_meetup_great_begginning" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">understanding GraphQL</a> can be crucial in leveraging its full potential.</p>

<p>Recently, the first GraphQL Meetup in Wrocław highlighted the growing interest and applications of GraphQL in the tech community. We booked a 120-seat conference center and set up an event, half in hope, half in expectation. It blew our minds that over 700 people signed up. Next time we’re gonna need a bigger boat!</p><p>The mix of people told us a lot about the technology. Nearly two-thirds of attendees have just started working with GraphQL and wanted to improve their projects, a fifth have heard of the tech and wanted to know what the fuss was all about, and the remaining 14% were those curious types who were hearing about GraphQL for the very first time.</p>

    >While chatting to attendees after the event, we learnt about some of the
    niches in which people are using GraphQL. We found out that developers are
    experiencing a great number of positive benefits but there are a few common
    problems that are starting to appear as people repeatedly work with the
    technology. Coming together as a community helps highlight which issues are
    common and how we can overcome them, as well helping us spread knowledge and
    best practices.</span

<h2>What’s Next for the GraphQL Community in Wrocław?</h2>

<p>We want to build more with GraphQL. And we want to build a community around the technology here in Wrocław, because we have some of the best developers in the world in our city.
